Tauktae Cyclone: Indian Navy rescues 146 people, rescue operation underway

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has rescued 146 people on board a single ring in the Sea due to cyclone 'Tauktae' in the Arabian Sea and the search for the rest is still underway. An official said the Navy had deployed p-81 on Tuesday morning for rescue operations. It is a multimission maritime patrol aircraft of the Indian Navy for search and rescue operations.

The official said, "Search and rescue (SAR) work went on all night and 146 people were rescued from P305 till 6 am on Tuesday in the face of challenging conditions at sea. INS Kochi and INS Kolkata rescued 111 people, offshore aid vessel (OSV) 'Greatship Ahilya' rescued 17 people and OSV Ocean Energy rescued 18 people.''

A Navy spokesman said the barge 'gal constructor' drifted 48 nautical miles north of Colaba Point, which has 137 people. An emergency 'towing' vessel 'Water Lily', two auxiliary ships and CGS Emperor have been sent to assist in the area and rescue crew members. The spokesperson said in a statement, "INS Talwar is going to assist another oil rig Sagar Bhushan and Bajre SS-3. Both are currently about 50 nautical miles southeast of port.''
